Just caught the drama "The Campaign to Confer the Public Service Star on JBJ" at Drama Centre Theatre, and YES, it was good.
Imagine this... 2 performers, Pam Oei and Rodney Oliveiro, have to act through the whole drama in 2 hours. But there are more than 10 characters in the show! So... in the first half, Pam switched between several characters, like the PA of JBJ, a Malay secretary, a NUS student etc. And in the second half, Rodney had to be the DSP (Deputy Superintendeant, SIngapore Police Force), PPS (Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister), a press reporter etc. Not easy right! And of course, I must say they are really good at it!
The story of the drama is actually quite straight forward. An NUS student and President of the Association of Students for Self Expression (ASS) took lead to launch The Campaign to Confer the Public Service Star on JBJ. Erm... not THAT JBJ. And of course, twists and turns are expected in this ambition of his. Then... something happened (sorry, I can't say what in case any of you are watching it soon). After that something happened, a civil servant is tasked to exercise damage control. And that was when she realised how difficult and how easy some things can happen in the civil service, the red tapes and any other tapes.
As promised in the promo materials, you can expect to find some political jokes in the show, like the white elephant, NKF, girls banned from selling t-shirts. So if you've been keeping yourself updated in current affairs, you will definitely enjoy the sarcasms!
